HAMPTON, Va. (Jan. 24, 2025) … The Pirates close out a three-game road stretch against the Seahawks of UNCW. Saturday night's contest is the first meeting between the two squads during the 2024-25 campaign. While the Seahawks had dropped their first conference game to Towson, UNCW has rallied off two consecutive wins defeating William & Mary and Charleston.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Prior to joining the Coastal Athletic Association, Hampton faced UNCW one time. The series first meeting came during the 2012-13 season and the Pirates fell to the Seahawks 61-60. Since becoming a member of the conference, HU has squared off against UNCW twice. The 2024-25 campaign will mark the first time in program history that the two sides will face off twice in the same season.

ABOUT HAMPTON

The Pirates are coming off a 94-83 defeat to the Tribe of William & Mary inside Kaplan Arena. Hampton was able to shrink an 18-point halftime deficit down to one with 9:56 remaining in the contest. Both sides traded blows but the Tribe made their free throws down the stretch. George Beale Jr. finished the contest with a team-high 19 points while shooting 7-for-13 from the field. Xzavier Long produced a season-high 14 points while grabbing nine rebounds.

Throughout the season Coach Ivan Thomas's side has one of the best turnover margins in the conference. On average, the Pirates are winning the turnover battle by 2.5 per contest which is second in the CAA and 60th in the nation. Hampton is forcing a conference-high 7.7 steals per game. In CAA play the Pirates have produced the second most steals in the league (53).
