HAMPTON, Va. (Jan. 29, 2025) … Hampton University men's basketball team returns home to the Convocation Center hosting the Northeastern Huskies. Both sides have won three Coastal Athletic Association games this season. The Pirates have posted a 6-3 record at home during the 2024-25 campaign.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Prior to joining the Coastal Athletic Association, Hampton had never faced Northeastern. Since becoming a member of the conference, HU has only squared off against Northeastern twice. The series' first meeting came during the 2022-23 season, where the Pirates fell to the Huskies 79-63. The 2024-25 campaign will mark the first time in program history that the two sides will face off twice in the same season. 

ABOUT HAMPTON

The Pirates are coming off an 83-62 defeat to the UNCW Seahawks inside Trask Coliseum. Hampton struggled from beyond the arc, only making two threes in the first half. HU's first three of the contest did not come until the final minute of the first frame. Noah Farrakhan led the Pirates in scoring with 15 points while grabbing three rebounds. Freshman Daniel Johnson was the only other Hampton player to finish the game in double figures with 10 points. Johnson has produced 10 or more points on six separate occasions. 

Throughout the season, Coach Ivan Thomas's side has received production off the bench. In 13 of Hampton's games this season, the leading scorer has not started the contest. The Pirates bench on average is producing 38.1 points per contest, which is the second most in the nation and first in the CAA. Hampton has also been one of the better rebounding teams in the conference with the fourth-best rebounding margin (3.4). The Pirates have built their advantage on the offensive glass grabbing 13.6 per game. 

ABOUT NORTHEASTERN

The Huskies' contest against the Pirates marks the start of a three-game road stint. Northeastern this season has posted a road record of (4-6) and is (1-4) in conference road games. In its last time out, Northeastern fell at home to Towson 75-65. LA Pratt led the Huskies in scoring 22 points while going 9-for-21 from the field. Harold Woods was the only other Northeastern player to finish the game in double figures. 

The Huskies have been one of the best shot-blocking teams in the country. On average, Northeastern is producing 4.7 blocks per game which leads the CAA. Junior center Collin Metcalf leads the way for the Huskies with 45 blocks. Metcalf's 45 blocks is the 13th most in the nation and ranks second in the conference.
