HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 23, 2025) ... Hampton University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Anthony D. Henderson, Sr., has announced an immediate leadership change in the football program, relieving Trent Boykin of his duties as head coach.
"It is always difficult to make changes, particularly when it involves dedicated professionals and student-athletes," Henderson stated. "Our commitment remains unwavering to ensuring Hampton football achieves the highest standards of excellence on and off the field. We want to thank Coach Boykin for his dedication and leadership and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
Boykin, a veteran running back and special teams coach with nearly three decades of collegiate coaching experience, took over as the Pirates' interim head coach for the 2024-25 season, and in October 2024, was named the permanent head coach after the interim tag was lifted.
A national search will be conducted to identify the next leader of the Hampton Pirates Football program. The Department expresses its gratitude for Coach Boykin's service and contributions to Hampton Athletics.
