EMMITTSBURG, Md. (Feb. 23 2025) … The Hampton University tennis teams split action on Sunday at Mount St. Mary's with the women winning 4-1 and the men losing 4-1.
In the women's match, Hampton dropped the doubles point despite a win by Meri Okuwaki and Masa Mitic won 6-4 at line two.
Singles saw Hampton respond with four wins at the top four spots. Diana Starodubtseva won 6-4, 6-4 at number one and Okuwaki followed suit with a 6-1, 7-5 win at number two. Serena Bryan took a three-set win at number three 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 and Mitic ended the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win at number four.
The men's match saw Mt. St. Mary's sweep the doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. In singles, the Pirates scored their point at the top of the lineup as Donte Armbrister took his second straight three-set win with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 win.
Both teams are back in action on Friday at Longwood.
