VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (February 27, 2025) … The Hampton University men's indoor track and field team took home a fifth-place finish on Thursday in the Coastal Athletic Association Championships at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.
N.C. A&T won the meet scoring 185 points, followed by Monmouth (146), Northeastern (140.5), William & Mary (81) and Hampton (69) to round out the top five out of eight teams.
The Pirates had three events on Thursday with multiple top-eight finishers. In the 60 meters,
Deondre McIntosh was seventh in 6.88, and
Jaden Clark finished in eighth. The 800 meters had
Mohammed Al-YaFee in third (1:51.41) and
Ibrahim Abdalla in sixth (1:52.64). Hampton took a second and a fifth in the triple jump, with
Joseph Ernest coming in second with a leap of 14.92m (50-8.25), and
Ellis Branch was fifth with a leap of 14.42m (47-3.75).
Hampton took a third and a fourth place in the relays on Thursday as the grouping of
Marcus Glanville,
Chadison Cowan,
Nellie Ambriton and
Justin Anderson were third in the 4x400 relay in 3:15.28.
In the 4x800 relay,
Xavier Jemison, Al-YaFee, Ambriton, and Abdalla were fourth in a time of 7:37.78.
Hampton added another second-place finish as Anderson was second in the 400 meters in 47.64 seconds.
Rounding out the point scorers on Thursday was
Daven Gibson in the high jump with a third place showing (2.02m/6-7.5), while
Daye Karib-Whyte took fifth in the shot put (15.45m/50-8.25).
The outdoor track and field season will begin in late March.
