NORFOLK, Va. (April 1, 2025) … The Hampton University men's and women's tennis teams ventured down I-64 on Tuesday to face the Norfolk State Spartans and dropped matches at the NSU Tennis Complex. Hampton's men fell 6-1 to the Spartans, while the women dropped a 5-2 decision.
 
In the women's match, the Spartans won the doubles point by winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Hampton (5-6) did take the top spot as Diana Starodubtseva and Serena Bryan won 6-2 over Angelina Maniawska and Irina Iurea.
 
In singles, the Pirates won at the No.3 and No. 6 spots. Sofia Sokolova defeated Ines Sabadie 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at the three line and Masa Mitic defeated Maniawska 7-5, 0-6, 1-0 (10-3) at line six.
 
For the men's match, like the women's, Norfolk State won at line two and three doubles to claim the team point. Hampton (3-11) won at the top where Donte Armbrister and Yanozie Amadike took a 6-4 win over Vladisav Gorbatenko and Boris Lunin.
 
In singles, Aryan Arora earned the only point for the Pirates with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Igor Kubalka at line five.
 
Both teams are back on the home courts of Neilson-Screen Stadium on Thursday to face Coppin State at 2 p.m.
