BUIES CREEK, N.C. (April 12, 2025) … The Hampton University softball team continued conference play this afternoon against the Campbell Camels. The Camels took both games from the Pirates with their offense recording 22 hits. Campbell took game one by a score of 12-0. Hampton doubled its hit total from game one in game two but still fell to the Camels 10-1.

GAME ONE

The Pirates had an early baserunner in the first inning. Kylee Quinn was able to draw a walk. While Carmynn Bonner grounded out Quinn advanced to second. Campbell got out of the frame with another ground out. Angelina Branch made her first start on the mound for the first time in two weeks. The Chesterfield, Va. native, recorded two strikeouts in the bottom of the first stanza.

Leah Maduro began the second frame with a base hit in the infield. Meagan Ramos's sacrifice bunt gave the Pirates another runner in scoring position. Cassidy Lee also reached first on a base knock to the infield. The Basses were full of Pirates after Santra Armstead's walk. Campbell stopped a run by getting Maduro out on a fielder's choice. With Megan Gregory's first strikeout of the afternoon, the Camels got out of the inning.

During the bottom of the second Campbell jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Camels began the frame with two consecutive walks. An error on a fielder's choice brought in the first run of the contest. The final run of the inning came on a sacrifice fly.

Both teams were held scoreless in the third frame. Campbell's offense came to life in the bottom of the fourth. The Camels manufactured 10 runs and seven hits just in the fourth stanza. Campbell did most of its damage with no outs on the board.

GAME TWO

The Camels got on the board early in the bottom of the first. Campbell began the stanza with a leadoff single in the infield. CU's first run was driven in on a double to left center field. A Fielder's choice brought the final runner across the plate.

Campbell brought in three more runs during the second inning. An early fielding error put baserunners on the corners. A triple by one of the league's top hitters Tyra Parker, cleared the basses. A single up-the-middle brought in Parker making it 5-0.

The Camles bats continued to produce in the third frame doubling their lead making it 10-0. While both teams' bats were held quiet in the fourth, Hampton got on the board in the top of the fifth. Aitirhna Aiken began the stanza with a base knock to the outfield. Bonner's single advanced Aiken to third base. While Kylie Hill grounded out to second, a run came across the plate.
