Hampton Softball Ends Campbell Series With a 7-3 Loss

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (April 13, 2025) … The Pirates closed out the series against Campbell this afternoon with a 7-3 loss to the Camels. Hampton jumped out to an early lead in the first two frames. A three-run inning for the Camels helped CU take control of the contest. Campbell had another three-run frame to increase its advantage late.

Hampton jumped out to an early lead during the top of the first inning. With two outs, Carmynn Bonner recorded a home run to right center field. Bonner's solo blast was her third of the season. Kylie Hill followed up Bonner's homer with a base knock to the outfield to keep the stanza alive. The Camels during the next at-bat forced a groundout to get out of the frame.

Coach Cat Tarvin's side continued to build upon the early home run in the top of the second. After Santrea Armstead's walk, a sacrifice bunt advanced her to scoring position. Freshman Cassidy Lee produced her first hit of the afternoon to put runners on the corners. With three consecutive singles, HU jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Amani Johnson and Kylee Quinn both drove in runs for the Pirates during this stretch.

Campbell started to claw into Hampton's advantage in the bottom of the third. Tyra Parker drove in a run on a double to left center field. The bats continued to produce for the Camels in the fourth frame. CU began the inning with a solo home run to center field. Campbell continued to record extra-base hits to tie the contest 3-3. The Camel's final run of the stanza came on a sacrifice fly.

During the bottom of the sixth, Campbell's offense caught fire once again. A sacrifice fly drove in the first run of the stanza for the Camels. A two-run blast down the left field line produced two more runs for Campbell. While Hampton gave up one more hit, the Pirates got out of the inning. With HU's bats held quiet in the seventh, the Camels held onto their four-run lead.
