HAMPTON, Va. (April 26, 2025) … Entering Armstrong Stadium to a high-tech pyrotechnics show, the Hampton Pirates capped spring football drills with the annual Spring Game on Saturday at Armstrong Stadium.
After warm-ups and conditioning, Coach
Trenton Boykin's young team went through pregame drills and practiced game situations. Following situational kicking, the Pirates ran seven-on-seven drills as well as 11-on-11 game plays and in game conditions.
"Our goal in the spring is build for the season and come together as a team," said Boykin. "We evaluate a little bit of everything in the spring and try to improve on the little things. We had a great spring and I'm looking forward to August when we get ready for the first kick-off."
During the off-season Boykin added four coaches to the staff including defensive tackles coach Raekwon Bethea (formerly of SMU), co-offensive coordinator Ollie Taylor (Delaware State), tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Delbert Tyler II (Robert Morris) and defensive ends coach Marc Yellock (Valdosta State).
The Pirates open their 124
th season on the gridiron on Aug. 30 when Hampton travels to Mississippi to take on Jackson State. The home opener comes a week later when the Pirates host longtime foe Elizabeth City State on Sept 6. at 6:00 p.m. at Armstrong Stadium.
