HAMPTON, Va. - (September 11, 2025) ... In a historic step toward
demystifying STEM and advancing equity for HBCU student-athletes, the Alfreeda Goff Foundation today announced the official launch of the ARISE Experience at Hampton University, one of America's most prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
ARISE is a holistic program built on three pillars:
- Life in STEM beyond Sport: equipping student-athletes with personal and professional upskilling.
- Making the most of MONEY: advancing financial health with "money moves" tailored to college athletes.
- Exploring my Mind Set: How to normalize care, reduce stigma, and strengthen connections with campus counseling centers.
The Alfreeda Goff Foundation (known as athLEDA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing mental health equity through research, partnerships, and culturally responsive care models. auntEDNA.ai is a C Corp Social Impact sister company and recipient of a National Science Foundation Digital Health Award, transforming how universities and counseling centers deliver wrap-around holistic support focused on Mindset.
This moment marks the culmination of a five-year partnership that began with the NCAA in 2020. The program started with fewer than 100 student-athletes and has since grown to impact more than 1,300 student-athletes in 2025. From on-campus activations to innovative AI-driven tools, The 2025 Brave Hearts Tour starts at Hampton University and will include stops at existing university partners University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Claflin University, and Clark Atlanta University.
At Hampton, ARISE will deliver seamless, confidential access to mentors and industry networks, culturally responsive financial education, and mental-health supports. Powered by auntEDNA.ai, campus staff, coaches, counselors, and clinicians will also gain data-driven insights to identify needs and close gaps. Together, these efforts strengthen institutional support for student-athletes, shifting the paradigm from reactive interventions to proactive empowerment.
"This launch is not just about software—it's about reshaping how entire institutions think about the student-athlete experience," said Dr. Tracey Hathaway, Co-Founder of the Alfreeda Goff Foundation. "By combining the trust of a nonprofit foundation, the scale of a technology company, and campus resources, student-athletes gain agency to thrive not only in sport but in life. This aligns with our research showing that equity-minded, holistic supports improve retention, wellness, and long-term success."
"
Having previously collaborated with ARISE, I know the experience can be transformational for student-athletes. I'm proud to help bring this group to HU athletics" ~
Alisha Tucker, Deputy Athletics Director/SWA.
