Campbell Stops Pirates 58-43

HAMPTON, Va. (Jan. 23, 2026) … Campbell (12-8, 5-2) used its inside scoring and rebounding strength to defeat Hampton (8-10, 2-4) 58-43 before 578 fans at the Convocation Center. Campbell scored 30 of its 58 points in the paint and outrebounded the Pirates 45-26 including 17 offensive rebounds in recording the win.

"We got off to a slow start tonight and couldn't find our rhythm," Coach Tamisha Augustin said. "We need to be more aggressive out of the gate and play at our pace. We have a resilient team and I am confident we will bounce back."

It their last outing, the Pirates offense struggled registering five points in the first period in a 70-57 loss at North Carolina A&T. Hampton matched its slow start against Campbell with just five first quarter points, trailing 15-5, as the Camels scored the final 11 points of the quarter.

Hampton's Kiki McElrath connected on a turn-around jumper in the lane to open the second quarter scoring. Her two free throws coupled with Taylor Gibson's bucket closed the gap to 15-11. But Campbell retaliated scoring nine straight points to go ahead 24-11 with 4:43 left before halftime.

Campbell held a 31-16 halftime lead as Gianni Boone had 14 points to lead all scorers. Olivia Smith led Hampton with five points. The Camels won the battle of the boards 26-12 and dominated inside play scoring 20 points in the paint.

A 10-2 Pirate run to open the third quarter closed the deficit to 33-26. But the Pirates could get no closer. Campbell opened a 16-point lead by scoring the final six points of the third quarter to go ahead 46-30.

Five straight Pirate points to start fourth quarter cut the deficit to 46-35. But back-to-back Campbell three-pointers increased their lead to 52-35 with 6:37 to go. Hampton baskets by Kayla Lezama and Le'Asia Foreman made it 52-39. Campbell's deliberate style of play kept the Pirates from making a late run leading to the Camels 58-43 victory. Aisha Dabo led the Pirates with 12 points.

The victory was the fifth straight for the Camels over the Pirates.

A decision on the status of Sunday's scheduled game with Elon will be made on Saturday. The snowstorm is expected to blanket the region with a significant amount of snow.
