HAMPTON, Va. (Jan. 26, 2026) … Junior
Kayla Lezama scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half to lead Hampton in a 79-53 loss to Elon on Monday afternoon in CAA women's basketball action.
The Pirates got on the board first behind a
Kiki McElrath three-pointer 14 seconds into the contest. Elon (9-10, 4-3) got layups from LaNae' Corbett and Tamia Watkins to take a 4-3 lead at the 8:30 mark.
Le'Asia Foreman layup off a McElrath feed put the Pirates back in front 5-4 with 7:02 on the clock. That turned into the last lead for the Pirates.
Both teams traded buckets as a Lezama pullup jumper brought the Pirates to 8-7 with 5:47 left in the opening period. From that point, Elon went on a 23-4 run that spanned almost 8:30 of game time as a Corbett layup with 5:54 left in the half put Elon up 31-11.
In the second half, the Pirates hit 13-of-24 from the field (54.2%) to help chip away, but the Phoenix held a 43-30 advantage on the boards which included 21 offensive boards to keep the Pirates at bay.
Joining Lezama in double figures for Hampton was McElrath with 12 points, while
Le'Asia Foreman added nine and a team-best seven boards.
Hampton now heads to UNCW for a 7 p.m. tip on Friday night before hosting N.C. A&T on Sunday at 2 p.m.
