Softball Evens CAA Series With 10-6 Win Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 28, 2026) … A seven-run fourth inning for the Hampton University softball team helped propel the Pirates to a 10-6 win over N.C. A&T in game two of their three-game CAA series on Saturday afternoon.

Each team scored a pair of runs in the second inning as Hampton started with a one-out single from Kamryn Brown who moved up as Cassidy Lee reached on a fielding error. Violet Salazar then singled to right scoring Brown and moving Lee to third. Jael Lewis came into run for Salazar and proceeded to steal second. Both Lewis and Lee moved up a base on a wild pitch for the second run of the inning.

N.C. A&T responded in its half of the inning as Jaden James started with a walk and went to second on a two-out hit by pitch to Taniyah Thomas. Caldwell then reached on an error that allowed James and Thomas to score.

Hampton (8-21, 2-9) broke the game open with a seven-spot, all with two outs, in the fourth as with one out, Brown singled and went to second on a ground out, which was followed by a Salazar single to score Brown. Pinch-hitter Sydney Evans walked to put runners at first and second, then Riley Bohanon walked to load the bases. Leah Maduro answered with a two-run single to right and then she and Bohanon scored on a two-run double from Carmynn Bonner.

The runs kept coming as Aitrihna Aiken singled putting runners on the corners. Aiken moved to second on a wild pitch, then she and Bonner scored on a single up the middle by Camryn Hamilton to give Hampton a 9-2 lead.

The Pirates pushed another run across in the fifth as Cassidy Lee doubled and went to third on a groundout from Salazar. Lee scored on a groundout by Evans giving Hampton a 10-2 lead.

The Aggies got an RBI single from Destiny Sims and a steal of home by Jamari Moss to plate two in the fifth. They pushed two more across in the sixth off an error and an RBI single from Ava McCauley.

Salazar was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Maduro and Brown each had two hits for Hampton. Maduro, Bonner and Hamilton joined Salazar with a pair of RBIs apiece. Ava Lester took the win throwing 4.2 innings and allowing two hits, four runs, two earned runs to go with two strikeouts and two walks.

Katriel Williams went 2-for-4 to lead N.C. A&T (15-23, 2-9) as Devin Long took the loss throwing 3.2 innings with five hits, five runs, four earned runs and three strikeouts.

Game three of the series will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
