Hampton University Athletics

Devan Hill is in his sixth year working as an assistant with the Hampton University Pirates. During his previous five seasons Hill coached three all-conference safeties and four all-conference corners and a Pirate defensive unit that finished in the top 5 in the nation in pass defense and interceptions 2003-2006. He has coached on all three MEAC championship teams. He started coaching at Bethel High School in (2000) as defensive back coach and went to Menchville High School (2001-2002) as a defensive coordinator.

 

A four-year letterman and state champion at Bethel High School (1990-1994). A four-year letterman and a two year starter at cornerback for Joe Taylor and the Pirates, Hill was a member of a Hampton squad that claimed back-to-back MEAC championships in 1997 and 1998. He is a 2000 graduate of Hampton, earning his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management.

 

For the 2008 season, Hill wants his linebackers to not only be physical but to be leaders of the defense. He expects to produce at least two All-Americans, win the MEAC and to do well in the playoffs.
