Hampton University junior guard Deron Powers was named HU Athlete of the Week for his performance this past week on the basketball court.

Powers (Williamsburg, Va.) was named Most Outstanding Player of the MEAC Tournament after helping the Pirates win four games in six days en route to their fifth tournament championship. He averaged 16.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per contest.
 
Powers scored a season-high 23 points in Thursday’s quarterfinal against Maryland Eastern Shore after pouring in 18 points and grabbing four steals in the first round against Morgan State.
 
He scored 16 points in the championship game against Delaware State.
