Baltimore, Md. – Amanda Black and Ashley Weissenbach both pitched complete games and allowed zero earned runs, while the Hampton offense got two home runs from Brittany Davis and a grand slam from Angela Balser to sweep Coppin State 11-0 and 11-1 Tuesday afternoon. With the victory the Lady Pirates (16-4) extended their winning streak to 11 games, while the Lady Eagles (0-7) dropped their seventh straight contest.

In game one Hampton jumped out to a 2-0 lead after just two batters stepped to the plate. Lead-off batter Tesara Liggins walked and Davis drove her in with a two-run homer to left-center field. Four Coppin State errors led to two more runs in the inning for Hampton, one coming on an RBI single by Jada Jeffries.

The Lady Pirates totaled four runs again in their second at bat as Davis’ single drove in Leslie Hooks who led off with a double to right-center. Jeffries, Evelyn Garcia and Balser each drove in a run to give Hampton an 8-0 advantage after just two innings.

Hampton posted an additional run in each of its remaining three at bats, one coming on another home run by Davis, her fourth of the season. The junior second baseman finished the game 3-of-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs.

Black (8-1) won her fifth consecutive decision after tossing a complete game one-hitter, striking out six along the way.

Game two was pretty much over before it really got started, as the Lady Pirates put up 10 runs in the opening frame. Maggie Wolfe and Jennifer Gonzales each singled in a run and Garcia walked with the bases loaded to add another. Junior left fielder Angela Balser stepped to the plate and took an offering from Coppin State’s Christen Glascoe over the left field fence for her first career grand slam and a 7-0 Hampton lead. Back-to-back triples by Liggins and Wolfe accounted for two more runs and Gonzales added her second hit of the inning, an RBI double to round out the inning.

Weissenbach improved to 4-0 on the year after allowing just four hits and striking out two.
