MAGETT NAMED MEAC PLAYER OF WEEK

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Hampton University sophomore Rebecca Magett was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference office.

Magett (Grand Rapids, Mich.) led the Lady Pirates to a three-game sweep against Maryland-Eastern Shore over the weekend and became the first Lady Pirate to hit four home runs in a single game – a feat she accomplished in the second game of Friday's doubleheader. Magett's fourth home run of that game, a two-run shot, gave Hampton the win in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Magett finished the week 7-for-10 (.700) with four home runs, two doubles and eight RBI. She also scored eight runs and walked once.

Nicole Boggs of Coppin State was named MEAC Rookie of the Week, while teammate Paige Arnold was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week.

The Lady Pirates will return to action on Monday, when they take on North Carolina Central in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. at Lady Pirates Field.
