EUGENE, Ore. – Hampton University senior Francena McCorory and sophomore Reggie Dixon advanced to the finals in their respective events at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday at Hayward Field.
McCorory (Hampton, Va.) won her 400-meter dash preliminary heat with a 52.04, posting the second-fastest time of the preliminary round. Auburn's Joanna Atkins posted the fastest preliminary time with a 51.88.
Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) ran the seventh-fastest preliminary time in the 100-meter dash, turning in a 10.24 to advance to the finals. Junior Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) came in 20th after running a 10.51.
Dixon and Anderson were joined by juniors Predist Walker (Suffolk, Va.) and Devon Brown (Laurel, Md.) in the 4x100-meter relay, running a 39.85 in the preliminary heats to post the 10th-fastest time.
The top eight teams advanced to the final.
The men's 100-meter dash final will be held on Friday at 5:25 p.m. local time, with the women's 400-meter dash finals will be held on Friday at 6:32 p.m.
Friday's action will be televised live on CBS College Sports at 8-10 p.m. EST, with Saturday's action televised at 1-3 p.m. EST. The entire meet is also being streamed live at www.ncaa.com.
