2010-11 MBB Schedule
HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men's basketball team released its 2010-11 season schedule on Monday, a slate that includes two in-season tournaments and 11 home games.
The Pirates, under the direction of second-year head coach Edward Joyner Jr., will open the season in the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off, with its first game coming Nov. 15 in Winston-Salem, N.C. against Wake Forest. The Pirates will then face either Winthrop or Virginia Commonwealth on Nov. 16 at a time yet to be determined.
The Pirates have never faced Wake Forest.
Following the NIT Season Tip-Off, the Pirates will head to New York for a road game against Fordham on Nov. 19, before heading to High Point, N.C. to take on High Point University on Nov. 28. Hampton's first home game of the season will be Nov. 28, when the Pirates welcome Georgia State to the HU Convocation Center.
The Pirates will head to New York, N.Y. on Dec. 4 for the annual Big Apple Classic against Howard in Madison Square Garden, before returning to the Convocation Center for three straight home games – against Delaware on Dec. 8, Towson on Dec. 20 and Liberty on Dec. 22.
Hampton will ring in the New Year in California, when they compete in the University of San Francisco Tournament Dec. 28-Jan. 1. San Francisco, Colorado State and Dominican will join the Pirates in the four-team field.
From there, the Pirates will open the bulk of conference play on the road, starting with Coppin State on Jan. 8 and Morgan State on Jan. 10. Hampton will play its first home MEAC game on Jan. 15 against archrival Norfolk State, before North Carolina A&T pays the Convocation Center a visit on Jan. 17. The Pirates will then head to Florida to take on Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 22 and Florida A&M on Jan. 24.
Three straight home games follow – against Delaware State on Jan. 29, Maryland-Eastern Shore on Jan. 31 and South Carolina State on Feb. 5 – before the Pirates hit the road again. They'll play at Norfolk State on Feb. 12 and at North Carolina A&T on Feb. 14, before returning to the Convocation Center for their last two home games of the season, Feb. 19 against Bethune-Cookman and Feb. 21 against Florida A&M.
Road games against Delaware State on Feb. 26 and Howard on March 3 will close out the regular season.
The 2011 MEAC Basketball Championships will be held March 7-12 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
