SAVANNAH, Ga. – Hampton University junior
Kayla Williams won the individual medal at the Savannah State Tiger Fall Invitational, held Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the Crosswinds Golf Club.
Williams (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) shot an 11-over 155 (76-79) to claim the individual title, finishing one stroke ahead of senior
Dionne West (Springdale, Md.) – who shot a 12-over 156 (78-78) to come in second.
Williams' first-round 76 was the team's low round of the tournament.
Junior
Nicole West (Springdale, Md.) came in sixth with a 22-over 166 (79-87), while sophomore
Maria Stewart (Newport News, Va.) fired a 25-over 169 (83-86) to finish in a tie for ninth.
Senior
Sydnee Mack (Las Vegas, Nev.) came in 11th with a 30-over 174 (84-90).
The Lady Pirates finished second in the team standings with a score of 646 (316-330), finishing seven strokes behind team champion South Carolina State.
Junior
Curtis Fearrington (Attica, N.Y.) led the Pirates in the men's tournament, firing a 25-over 169 (80-89) to finish in a tie for 34th. Senior
Javier Lopez (Chicago, Ill.) shot a 28-over 172 (84-88) to finish tied for 41st, while senior
Geoffrey Napper (Bowie, Md.) came in tied for 45th with a 30-over 174 (86-88).
Mark Irwin shot a 32-over 176 (90-86) to finish 48th. Tyler Davidson came in tied for 50th with a 37-over 181 (88-93).
The Pirates finished 10th in the team standings with a score of 689 (338-351). Bethune-Cookman won the team title with a 23-over 599 (300-299).
Joseph Molina of Bethune-Cookman won the individual title, beating Jake Barge of Fayetteville State in a playoff after shooting a 3-over 147 (70-77).
