LADY PIRATES FOURTH IN ECAC, PIRATES TIED FOR FIFTH IN IC4A

BOSTON, Mass. –
The Hampton University women's track & field team finished fourth in the ECAC Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center, while the men's track & field team finished in a tie for fifth in the IC4A Indoor Championships at Boston University.

The Lady Pirates finished with 36 points, a half-point behind third-place George Mason, while the Pirates had 33 points to tie with Maryland Eastern Shore in fifth place. Connecticut swept both meets; the women had 96.5 points and the men tallied 73.5 points.

Senior Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.) took the 60-meter hurdles title with an 8.39 in the final, and she was also on the 4x400-meter relay team that won the gold with a 3:43.51.

Junior Claudia Calder (Kingston, Jamaica), junior Benita Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman Cydney Robinson (Portsmouth, Va.) were also on the relay team.

Robinson finished fourth in the 500-meter dash with a 1:13.61, while Calder tallied 3,643 points to win the women's pentathlon. She won the high jump portion of the pentathlon with a height of 1.74 meters, while also finishing second in the 800-meter run portion with a 2:19.55.

Vassell ran a 24.79 in the 200-meter dash to finish eighth.

Junior Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) and senior Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) swept the top two spots in the men's 60-meter dash; Dixon ran a facility-record 6.60 to win the event, while Anderson ran a 6.75 to come in second.

Dixon automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 60-meter dash for the second time.

Anderson also ran a 21.21 in the 200-meter dash to finish third, while Dixon came in fourth with a 21.26.

Freshman Je'Von Hutchison (Boynton, Fla.) ran a school-record 47.70 in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash, before running a 47.87 in the final to finish fifth.

The 2011 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held March 11-12 at the Gilliam Indoor Track on the campus of Texas A&M University.
