GREENSBORO, N.C. –
The Hampton University women's track & field team finished second in the 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track, while the men's track & field team came in fourth.

The Lady Pirates were denied their sixth straight outdoor crown.

Hampton finished with 139 points on the women's side to finish one point behind Norfolk State, while the Pirates finished fourth in the men's standings with 66 points. Norfolk State won the men's team title with 162 points.

The Lady Pirates' 4x400-meter relay team won gold with a 3:40.15. Freshman Emmy Fraenk (Hampton, Va.), senior Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.), freshman Cydney Robinson (Portsmouth, Va.) and junior Benita Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) made up the Lady Pirates 4x400 team.

Vassell also won the MEAC title in the 100-meter hurdles after running a 13.38, while freshman Breana Norman (Virginia Beach, Va.) came in second with a 13.79. Norman also finished third in the 200-meter dash with a 24.00.

Freshman Alaine Tate (Queens, N.Y.) ran a 4:43.58 to win the 1,500-meter run.

Taylor and Robinson gave the Lady Pirates valuable points in the 800-meter run; Taylor finished second with a 2:10.40, while Robinson ran a 2:11.05 to finish third.

Tate ran a 2:18.70 to come in eighth and pick up another point.

Freshman Nichelle Harris (Rahway, N.J.) finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, though no time was recorded because officials determined an extra lap had been run. Finishing order was determined by lap count sheets and Norfolk State's Kellen Rutto was determined the winner.

Rutto finished second in the original race, despite leading at the bell lap.

Senior Damon Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) was named the meet's Most Outstanding Field Performer after giving the Pirates their only individual crown of the meet when he jumped 4.18 meters to win the pole vault.

He also came in second in the high jump with a mark of 2.10 meters and fourth in the javelin throw with a distance of 44.52 meters.

Junior Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) ran a 10.44 in the finals of the 100-meter dash to come in second.

Sophomore Jaleel Rogers (Philadelphia, Pa.) came in third in the 800-meter dash with a 1:52.32, while freshman Larry Ramirez (Pleasantville, N.J.) ran a 1:52.73 to come in fifth.

Brandon Roundtree came in third in the javelin throw with a distance of 50.06 meters.

The top three finishers in each event were named All-MEAC; event winners earned First Team honors.
