HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University will conduct its annual “Meet the Pirates/Youth Football Clinic” in conjunction with Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple on Saturday, Aug. 13 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the North Hampton Community Center.
Pirates Head Coach
Donovan Rose and selected members of the staff will be on hand at North Hampton Community Center to speak with the youth and assist with giving out the back to school items.
“I want to thank Rev. Barber for giving us an opportunity to be a part of the church's back to school endeavor,” stated Rose. “I think giving back to the community that we are asking to come out and support us is very important, and the players like interacting with youth in the community.”
At 12:45 p.m., following the event at North Hampton Community Center, all of the youth are invited to Armstrong Stadium on campus and will have a chance to meet all of the players and coaches. The players will put on a small clinic with the youth as well as pose for pictures and sign posters.
“I have always enjoyed the Meet the Pirates event because many of the kids come to the game but they never get a chance to know the players. This brings the community and Hampton University a littler bit closer,” said Rose.
The Pirates will conduct their sixth practice at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening in full pads under the lights as they continue to get ready for the 2011 season opener on Sept. 3. Hampton will travel to Chicago, lll. to take on the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M at Solider Filed with a 5 p.m. kick-off time.
