PIRATES HEADING TO OLD DOMINION FOR LOCAL SHOWDOWN

Game Notes

NORFOLK, Va. –
The Hampton University football team will cross the James River on Saturday to take on Old Dominion at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium at 6 p.m. in a battle of unbeatens.

The game will be broadcast locally on Cox 11 via tape delay.

The Pirates (2-0, 1-0 MEAC) picked up a big conference win with a 23-17 victory over Florida A&M on Thursday, Sept. 8, while ODU beat Georgia State 40-17 in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga. on Saturday for its seventh straight win dating back to last season.

Senior quarterback David Legree (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a standout performance against Florida A&M, going 27-for-39 in the air for a season-high 268 yards and two touchdowns as the Pirates picked up a big conference win. Legree, the reigning MEAC Offensive Player of the Week, is sixth in the MEAC in passing, averaging 183.5 yards per game, while also sitting tied for seventh in the MEAC with 63.5 rushing yards per contest.

Sophomore offensive lineman Vincent Harper (Belle Glade, Fla.) was named MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week for the second straight week after leading an offensive line that helped the Pirates record 427 offensive yard against FAMU – 159 of which came on the ground.

Junior kicker Taurean Durham (Uniondale, N.Y.) was named MEAC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week after hitting three field goals – including a season-long 34-yarder – against FAMU, on top of two extra-point tries.

Durham accounted for 11 of Hampton's 23 points in the win over Florida A&M.

Sophomore running back Antwon Chisholm (Belle Glade, Fla.), the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Year, rushed for 93 yards on eight carries, averaging 5.2 yards per rush. Chisholm leads the MEAC in rushing, averaging 117.0 yards per game on the ground.

The Monarchs (2-0), in their third year of existence with head coach Bobby Wilder, are embarking on their first season as official members of the Colonial Athletic Association. They boast reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Week Colby Goodwyn, a sophomore running back who rushed for 190 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's win over Georgia State.

The Pirates are 0-1 all-time against Old Dominion, with the Monarchs taking a 28-14 win at Armstrong Stadium last season thanks in large part to a strong special teams effort. Saturday's game will mark Hampton's first trip to the Norfolk, Va. campus to face ODU; the Pirates were last at Foreman Field in 1995 to take on Norfolk State.

The Pirates are 2-11 all-time against teams from the CAA. Hampton is 2-0 all-time against James Madison; 0-3 against New Hampshire; 0-1 against Old Dominion; 0-2 against Rhode Island; 0-1 against Richmond; 0-1 against Villanova; and 0-3 against William & Mary. The Pirates have not beaten a CAA school since beating James Madison 31-28 in Harrisonburg, Va. in 2002.
