ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Hampton University sailing team finished fifth in the South # 1 Regatta hosted by St. Mary's this past Saturday and Sunday.
The Pirates finished with 133 points. Georgetown won the regatta with 68 points.
Hampton had 63 points in the A Division – recording the fifth-best total – and 70 points in the B Division, which was tied for fifth in that division.
Breeze on Saturday was intermittent, resulting in delays in the begging and end of the day, while Sunday featured lightly southerly winds that allowed for 11 races to be completed.
The top four finishers from this past weekend have already qualified for the War Memorial, which will be held in Norfolk, Va. on Nov. 2-3. However, if the South #2 Regatta hosted by Georgetown this weekend is canceled as a result of the government shutdown, Hampton will also qualify for the War Memorial.
As of now, the South #2 Regatta is set for Saturday and Sunday in Alexandria, Va.
