DES MOINES, Iowa – Current and former members of the Hampton University track & field teams will compete in the 2013 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Thursday through Sunday on the campus of Drake University.
Senior
Benita Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) will compete in the senior women's 800-meter run, while freshman
Trey Holloway (Chesapeake, Va.) will be running in the junior men's 110-meter hurdles.
Taylor was a Second Team All-American in the 800-meter run, thanks to the school-record 2:04.72 she ran earlier this month in the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She was also a Second Team All-American in that event during the 2012-13 indoor season.
Holloway is an Honorable Mention All-American and Second Team All-MEAC in the 110-meter hurdles. His season-best time of 13.77 came in the NCAA East Preliminary back on May 23-25.
Former Lady Pirates Francena McCorory,
Yvette Lewis, and Kellie Wells will also be competing this weekend. McCorory will compete in the 400-meter dash, an event in which she was a three-time NCAA champion at Hampton.
In 2012, McCorory was ranked fifth in the world in the 400-meter dash.
Lewis and Wells will each run in the 100-meter hurdles; Wells won the bronze medal in that event in the London Olympics this past summer. Wells was also ranked third in the world in that event in 2012.
The first round of the senior women's 800-meter run will take place on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. EST, with the semifinals being run on Friday at 9:08 p.m. EST and the final on Sunday at 4:04 p.m. EST.
The women's 100-meter hurdles will start on Friday at 6:15 p.m. EST, with the semifinals on Saturday at 3:25 p.m. EST and the finals at 6:52 p.m. EST that same day.
The junior men's 110-meter hurdles will start on Thursday at 12 p.m. EST, with the final at 2:48 p.m. EST that same day.
The first round of the women's 400-meter dash will take place on Thursday at 6:20 p.m. EST, with the semifinals on Friday at 8:36 p.m. EST and the final on Saturday at 6:08 p.m. EST.
The USA Outdoor Championships will be televised live on Saturday from 4-5 p.m. EST on Universal Sports and from 5-7 p.m. EST on NBC Sports Network. On Sunday, live television coverage will run from 2-3 p.m. EST on Universal Sports, 3-4 p.m. on NBC Sports Network, and 4-6 p.m. EST on NBC.
