ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Hampton University junior
Giuditta Di Laghi finished sixth in the Faye Bennett MAISA Women's Singlehanded Championships hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy on Saturday and Sunday, falling just short of qualification for the national regatta.
Di Laghi (Albenga, Italy) tallied 98 points, finishing four points behind the fifth-place finisher. The top five advanced to the ICSA Singlehanded Nationals (Nov. 8-10).
Saturday started with a brisk breeze out of the northeast before shifting to out of the northwest later on in the day. Sunday's breeze also came out of the northeast, but wasn't as strong as on Saturday.
Arielle DeLisser from Hobart and William Smith won the regatta.
The Pirates will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday, when they head to St. Mary's City, Md. for the South #1 regatta. For more information on Hampton University sailing, please call the Office of Sports Information at (757) 727-5811, or visit the official Pirates website at
