LADY PIRATES SECOND, PIRATES FOURTH IN MEAC OUTDOORS

Results

GREENSBORO, N.C. –
The Hampton University women's track & field team finished second in the 2016 MEAC Outdoor Championships at the Irwin Belk Track on Saturday. The men's track & field team wound up fourth in the team standings.

The Lady Pirates wound up with 139 points, and the Pirates racked up 83.5 points.

"First of all, I would like to congratulate Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman on winning," Director of Track & Field Maurice Pierce said. "They did a great job of increasing their daily lead to the point where we couldn't catch them. I personally feel as though the final results on both the men's and women's teams would have been better, and we would've been in a better position to win, if we had two healthier teams."

Senior Ce'aira Brown was named the meet's Most Outstanding Runner on the women's side, accounting for 35 points all by herself. Brown won both the 800-meter run (2:07.80) and the 1,500-meter run (4:32.08), while running on the 4x400-meter relay squad that came in second.

She was also second in the 10,000-meter run (37:14.19) and fourth in the 5,000-meter run (18:02.73).

Senior Tanisha Greene won the women's 400-meter dash after running a season-best 54.08. Greene was also on the 4x400-meter relay team, along with Brown, freshman Erin Morrison, and senior Kristian Young, that took the silver medal with a 3:43.65.

Graduate student Siobhan Ford-Holland won the women's triple jump, leaping a season-best 12.51 meters (41 feet, 0.50 inches). She was second in the long jump with a season-best mark of 5.88 meters (19'3.5").

Freshman Katilin Scott was second in the heptathlon with a season-best 4,439 points.

On the men's side, senior Trey Holloway took the 110-meter hurdles with a season-best 13.77. Senior Sulaiman Fareed won the shot put, tossing a school-record 17.22 meters (56 feet, six inches).

Redshirt junior Christian Faber-Kinney followed up his indoor heptathlon performance by winning the decathlon, racking up a school-record 6,358 points. Freshman Jerrick Powell finished second in the decathlon with 6,002 points.

Faber-Kinney also came in third in the javelin throw with a mark of 55.28 meters (181 feet, four inches).

Freshman Trey Clark was third in the pole vault with a mark of 3.82 meters (12 feet, 6.25 inches).

Florida A&M repeated as women's champions with 164 points, while Bethune-Cookman captured the men's title with 151 points.

The top three finishers in each event earned All-MEAC honors.

"Going forward for 2017, we just have to find a better way to keep our teams healthier," Pierce said.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will be in Princeton, N.J. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the IC4A and ECAC Outdoor Championships.
