WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Five top five finishes for the Hampton University Lady Pirates track team over the weekend helped them finish 22
nd at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary.
Corneisha Mitchell topped that group with a second place finish in the Hammer Throw – University Division with a toss of just under 44 meters (144-3). She also had a ninth place finish in the Discus with a toss of 36.18 meters (118-8), while
Kiyanna Thomas was eighth in that event with a toss of 36.73 meters (120-6).
In the 10,000 meters, Hampton had a pair of top seven finishes as Janet Okeago took fifth in 34:55.22 and Faith Keitany was seventh in 35:26.05 as both qualified for the ECAC meet in May.
In the relays, the 4x100 and 4x400 teams ran times to qualify for the ECAC meet with fifth place finishes in their races. The 4x1 team of
Tiara Robinson,
Mallory Pitchford,
Jaelen Leonard and
Meshala Morton ran 47.24, while the 4x4 team of Leonard, Morton,
Erin Morrison and
Sashana Hinds ran 3:50.93.
The 4x200 team of Robinson, Morton, Leonard and Hinds took fourth in 1:39.95, while the distance medley team of Keitany,
Kameryn Trussell,
Pollyanna Velasco and Okeago was eighth in 12:07.23.
The Lady Pirates will next compete in the Liberty Collegiate Invitational April 7-8 in Lynchburg.
