HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University women's soccer team announced its 2017 recruiting class on Thursday.  A total of 13 new Lady Pirates will join the team coming off a 2-8-1 campaign in 2016.
 
"The class of 2017 is a very talented group that we are expecting to have enough of an impact to elevate our team's ability and competitiveness," said Hampton University Head Coach Frank Hughes.  "However, we need to keep a sobering perspective on the expectations.  Our schedule is much more challenging than the last couple of seasons, and the growing pains that go along with it will be benefit this group in the long run." 
 
The Lady Pirates will have 11 returning players highlighted by leading goal scorer Sydney Jackson with four goals and three assists.  In goal, sophomore Maya Andrews returns after a freshman season where she ended ranked second in NCAA Division I in saves per game and 36^th in total saves.
 
Hampton will take the field for pre-season camp on July 31 with their first game on August 18 at The Citadel.   The team will compete in two spring events starting April 15 at Chowan University and then April 22 at Randolph University.
