IN BRIEF: After the Lady Pirates jumped out to a 1-0 lead, Gardner-Webb responded with four unanswered goals to defeat Hampton 4-1 on a Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With a throw in assist from Isobel Finnegan, Lauren Frick lofted a kick over the goalie's head and into the back of the net for the Lady Pirates' first goal of the game to give Hampton a 1-0 advantage at the 5:40 mark.
- At the 24:15 minute mark, Jada Newton receive a touch pass from Stina Kleppe to drill one into the back of the net as Gardener-Webb tied the game at 1-1.
- With a led pass from Ty Snell, Kleppe maneuvered around defenders to score the Bulldogs' second goal of the day as Gardner-Webb took a 2-1 lead late in the first half.
- Callista Eckert found Samuella Grove, who placed one high over the goalie, to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead at the 63:35 mark.
- Kleppe would seal the deal, as she nailed a goal on a corner kick at the 70 minute mark to give the Bulldogs their final goal of the day.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- Hampton was out-shot by Gardner-Webb 28-6 for the game.
- The Bulldogs led in corner kick opportunities 6-2.
