ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Hampton men's tennis team opened Big South Conference action on Friday dropping a 6-1 decision at Winthrop.
Davy Van Geerke scored the lone point for the Pirates with a 7-5, 7-6 win at line three singles over Lluis Miralles.
Basil Post dropped a third-set tie-breaker at line five singles losing 6-1, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6) to James Hartson.
In doubles, Van Geerke and
Fernando Fernandes won at line two 6-4, but the Eagles took the other two spots for the team point.
Hampton now visits Gardner-Webb for the back half of its Big South road opening weekend on Saturday.
