BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Hampton women's indoor track and field team took second place this weekend at the Big South Conference Championships inside the Rector Field House at Virginia Tech. High Point won the meet with 174 points, followed by Hampton (142.5) and Campbell (114.5).
Ayana Culhane took second in the weight throw with a toss of 58'1.25 to give Hampton eight points. The Lady Pirates took 4-6-8 in the triple jump as
Adetoun Oluwole was fourth with a leap of 40'2.75,
Kameryn Trussell was sixth (38'4) and
Mallory Pitchford was eighth (38'1.25).
Hampton went 1-2-5 in the 60 hurdles with
Autumn Smith winning for the second year in a row in 8.49, edging Pitchford in a photo finish and Oluwole was fifth in 8.73.
Jaelan Leonard took first in the 400 meters in 54.70, with
Sashana Hinds in third with a time of 56.43 to give Hampton 16 points.
Isis Brooks and Pitchford went 3-4 in the 60 meters with Brooks in 7.57 and Pitchford in 7.59 to give Hampton 11 points. Shakeira Johnson took sixth in the 800 meters in 2:18.16 for three team points.
Brooks topped a 1-5-7 finish in the 200 meters winning the race in 24.15, with Leonard in fifth (24.89) and Pitchford in seventh (25.11) for 16 team points. The 4x400 relay grouping of Dejah Grant, Hinds, Smith,
Jazlyn Jefferson won the race in 3:44.97.
