HUDDLESTON, Va. -- The Hampton University women's triathlon team opened its inaugural season with the Kinetic Cup Triathlon held at Smith Mountain Lake on Saturday.
Jessica Johnson covered the 750-meter open water swim in 17:40, while Grace Hughes finished the swim in 18:08.   During the 18.5-kilometer bike ride, both were lapped and eliminated from the event.
"The ladies are anxious to get back out and train again," said Hampton University head coach Dr. Jodi Jensen.  "While it wasn't the results we wanted, we got a lot of good lessons that'll help us next time.  I am proud of these ladies they handled the first event for Hampton with so much class."
