CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coming off a school record four assists and one goal performance on Sunday, senior
Savyon Hammond was named Big South Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Hammond becomes the first Lady Pirate to earn a weekly honor from the conference on the soccer pitch.
She broke the single-game school record for assists that was set in 2016 by Sydney Jackson with two at Hollins. The four assists also is the most by a Big South player since Jordan Lundin of Radford did the feat against Longwood in the 2014 season.
Hammond scored the first goal of the match off a feed from
Maya Martir in the 21
st minute. From there, she had assists to
Amani White, Martir, Zariah Ascue and
Angelina Woodard to help round out the scoring as Hampton defeated South Carolina State 5-0.
Hampton (1-1) visits VMI (1-3) on Thursday at 4 pm in Lexington, Va.
