WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Showing tons of fight and persistence, the Hampton Lady Pirates kept chopping into a deficit but fell 4-2 to visiting Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon.
The visiting Colonials scored twice in a 158 second span as Kassidy Fischer took a feed from Haleigh Finale for a 1-0 lead at the 20:10 mark. Finale put up her second assist on the day with a connector to Kayla Veloso-Lima for a 2-0 lead with 22:48 on the clock.
Hampton responded early in the second half as
Zaria Ascue found the back of the net at 47:29 to trim the lead to 2-1. RMU answered at 55:17 when Finale recorded her third assist of the day with a pass to Emily Rocco to push the lead back to 3-1.
Kynnedy Waldon got on a breakaway for Hampton down the far sideline and put a blast past the keeper to get the Lady Pirates back to a goal deficit at 3-2 with 68:03 on the clock. A little over six minutes later, Velos-Lima headed in a corner kick from Kaoru Hayashi for the final 4-2 margin.
Hampton returns to action on Wednesday at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania for a 2pm kick.
