High Point, NC- The Pirates Amira Aduma (Hampton, VA) was named the Most Valuable Athlete at the 2022 Championship today. 
 
"I'm so happy to have come to Hampton," said Aduma. "I wasn't expecting to win the MVP award, but I appreciate it so much. I feel like it shows my hard work is appreciated. Also, I'm just grateful I got to contribute to the team."

Aduma won the long-jump title with a leap of 6.13m (20 ft1.5 in) to set the tempo on day one. 

"I am extremely happy for Amira winning the championship MVP," said head coach Maurice Pierce. "What she did over these last three days was amazing. She is a talented athlete and a true team player."

Three weeks ago, Aduma was named Hampton Athletics Female Student-Athlete of the Year at the Pirate's Athletic Awards Banquet. 

She placed 3rd in the 100M, clocking in at 11.66. The graduate student also captured a fourth-place finish in the 200M, recording a PR of 23.70.

She ended the day helping the Pirates 4x100 relay team to a 2nd place finish, running the second leg.
 
Aduma transferred from the University of Illinois to Hampton University; she is pursuing a master's degree in Sports Administration, maintaining a 3.96 GPA. 
 
Her coaches describe her as hardworking, determined, and a leader amongst her peers.
