Delaware (29-18, 18-5) swept a three-game series against Hampton (15-31, 4-19) In Newark, Del. to close out the 2023 season. Delaware shutout the Lady Pirates in each game of the series. With the wins, Delaware claimed the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular-season title. Delaware advances to the conference championships scheduled for May 9-13 at Bill Edwards Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y., hosted by Hofstra. The top eight teams in the league advance to the conference championships.
Delaware claimed the first game of the series as Emily Winburn (17-8) tossed a no-hitter on May 4 in a 5-0 victory. Senior Emily Workman (5-7) absorbed the loss for the Lady Pirates. Delaware posted 5-0 shutout in the first game of the May 5 doubleheader. Junior Camryn Thompson and sophomore Jada Evans accounted for Hampton's hits in the contest. Evans (4-10) took the loss. In the second game of the doubleheader, Delaware tallied four runs in the fifth inning and another four in the sixth frame to post an 8-0 victory. Seniors Kayla Donon and Emily Kepple along with freshman Carmynn Bonner had one hit each for the Lady Pirates.
The young Lady Pirates roster included four freshmen and a sophomore. But the team loses five players in their final year of eligibility.
