NEWARK, N.J. (September 5, 2023) ... The Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic, will return to Prudential Center in Newark, N. J. for a third consecutive year on Saturday, February 3, 2024. The annual event created by director, actor, and entrepreneur Michael B. Jordan, WME Sports (the sports division of WME, an Endeavor company), Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, and Horizon Sports & Experiences will again feature a double header of HBCU men's basketball games.
This year's exciting slate includes the first ever SWAC matchup at the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic, between Grambling State and Jackson State, and one of the oldest rivalries in sports, Hampton versus Howard. For the third-straight year, the showcase will air on TNT.
The collaboration between Michael B. Jordan, WME Sports, Invesco QQQ, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, Horizon Sports & Experiences and WBD Sports reflects their shared mission of shining a light on and supporting HBCUs and their students. As has been the case in previous years, part of the proceeds from the basketball showcase will support organizations focused on advancing Black educational institutions and the local Newark community.
Continuing an experience that has been beloved by fans in previous years, the participating schools will again bring their respective bands, which will perform during game breaks and participate in a battle of the bands during halftime of their own game. The Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic will also feature a welcome party with a kickoff concert, a sports and entertainment summit, and a college fair so that attendees can learn more about the offerings of HBCUs.
As the founding and title sponsor of the event, Invesco QQQ, the "Official ETF of the NCAA," will continue its multi-year partnership and commitment to the HBCU community and collegiate athletics. In addition to supporting the basketball showcase, Invesco QQQ will once again participate in the event's ancillary programming and showcase its financial education platform, Invesco QQQ's How Not to Suck at Money, the "Official Financial Education Program of the NCAA." Participating basketball teams, their respective schools, and fans will have a chance to experience programming from the game that helps empower the next generation of investors.
Last year's Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic included several other meaningful activations off the court, including a star-studded financial education panel for participating HBCU student-athletes hosted by Invesco QQQ, amongst several other programs from brands like Deloitte, Actively Black, and Partake. Walmart's Makers Studio set up shop on the ground concourse, showcasing creations from HBC alumni and black entrepreneurs. A divine nine sorority & fraternity stroll-off was presented by Pizza Hut. The official Kick-off Party, featuring an intimate performance by GRAMMY Award-winning R&B artist Ashanti, was presented by Propel.
Tickets for the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic start at just $25 plus applicable service fees, and are on sale to the general public now.
