HAMPTON, Va. (January 9, 2024) – This afternoon, the CAA Conference announced women's track and field athlete, Abria Smith, as the Women's Field Athlete of the Week. This is the fourth time a Pirate has received a CAA Weekly Track and Field Award this season.

At the HBCU Showcase, Smith won the shotput event with a new indoor school record of 15.20m. Teammate Oluwatomilayo Akintunde just set the record at 15.00m at last week's VCU Invitational. Akintunde dethroned Ayana Culhane's distance of 14.58m that had held since 2019. Smith now has the best throw in the conference and cracks the top-50 in the NCAA.

Smith, a native of Chicago, Ill., also posted a personal best attempt in the weight throw, 17.96m. This is the second farthest in the CAA. Smith was named the Female Athlete of the HBCU Showcase for these performances.
