Hampton Women’s Soccer Fall at Home to UNCW, 3-0

NORFOLK, Va. (Oct. 3, 2024) … Hampton University women's soccer team lost to the UNCW Seahawks 3-0 at Powhatan Field. UNCW struck first in the 24th minute. Coming out of the half, the Seahawks scored in the first minute and struck again towards the end of the contest. The Lady Pirates produced four shots with two on goal. 

Hampton (3-9-1) kept UNCW's offense quiet holding them to two shots in the first 10 minutes. However, the Seahawks kept the pressure on HU by taking four corner kicks through this stretch. In the first half, UNCW tallied a total of eight corner kicks. Ece Lea Evin recorded Hampton's first shot of the contest. Lea Evin's attempt from the free kick missed the top of the crossbar. 

The Lady Pirates made a substitution in the 22nd minute bringing on freshman Ellen Van Caenegem. The Seahawks broke through Hampton's backline scoring the first goal of the match. Sanaa Perry and Sofia Jimenez both made appearances in the first half. Before heading into the half, Madisyn Stange manufactured a shot. The Lady Pirates put the ball into the opposition's penalty box from a corner kick. UNCW's goalkeeper Morgan Hobbs made the save keeping their advantage intact. 

In the opening moments of the second half, UNCW doubled its advantage with a strike from Emily Bowbliss. While Hampton held the Seahawks to six shots in the second half, UNCW found the back of the net once more making it 3-0.

Hampton in the final 15 minutes of the match was able to produce two shots. While Morgan Edwards's chance was off-target, Perry's shot was on goal. Hobbs once again made the save for the Seahawks. 

Up next, Hampton returns to action against Stony Brook on Thursday, Oct. 10th. The match at LaValle stadium is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed on FloSports.
