Battle at the Bay

A Look at the Lady Pirates

Hampton enters this weekend's slate of games with an overall record of 2-2. Carmynn Bonner, Emily Kepple, and Kylle Quinn all have started off the season batting over .300. Kepple entering her fifth season with the program, has been on a tear with a .365 batting average. HU's youth through the first four games have been key contributors to the lineup. In her collegiate debut, freshman Angelina Branch produced 10 strikeouts while only giving up three hits. Branch's efforts earned her Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honors.

A Look at Bryant

The Bulldogs are returning 19 players from last year's team. Aleix Hudson was an America East Second Team selection in 2023. Hudson led the team in batting average (.333) and hits with 39. Pitcher Kylie Kenney made program history at Bryant last season. Kenney became the second player in its D1 history to record 200 plus strikeouts and 20-plus wins. The Jamison, Pa. native, also finished four contests with 10 or more strikeouts.

A Look at Coppin State

Traditional MEAC foes Coppin State and Hampton have not faced each other since the 2019 season. CSU enters the 2024 campaign with a new head coach Mercedes Hargett. Before arriving at Coppin State, Hargett spent the past three seasons at Shaw in Raleigh, N.C. Last season the Eagles made it to the MEAC Championship game. Both Vanessa Carrizosa and Celeste Gonzales were named to the MEAC Preseason All-Conference Second Team.

A Look at Wagner

The Seahawks enter the Battle of the Bay with the youngest squad bringing in 11 freshmen during the offseason. Wagner's entire catching core will consist of four freshmen Sydney Chargualaf, Anna Burke, Grace Avery, and Brityn Cuchanan. While the Seahawks are a young team, junior Kate Wolf will lead the infield. Wolf last season had 27 hits while driving in nine runs. The Elk Grove Village, Calif. Native, best game of the season came against Merrimack recording three hits.
