HAMPTON, Va. (March 11, 2024) – The Hampton Pirates lacrosse team is getting ready to host the High Point Panthers in their seventh match of the season. The game will start at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, inside Armstrong Stadium.
In their last time out, the Pirates suffered a loss to Stony Brook. It was both teams' first conference match of the season. The Pirates were unable to find any offense in the majority of the game, as the Seawolves held a shutout until the fourth period.
Mamadou Meite scored his fifth goal of the season at the 11:24 mark and teammate
Darius Stanley found the back of the net for the final tally of the game with 3:09 remaining. On the defensive side of the ball,
Matt Hunter led the squad in ground balls with four and caused two turnovers. Midfielder
Jayden Price and defenseman
Taylor Whitt each forced two turnovers.
So Far This Season
Stanley leads the Pirates in goals this season with nine.
Andre Myers has four of the teams' thirteen assists. Goalie
David Sadasivam is second in the CAA in saves per game at 11.67. He is also first in ground balls with 21.
Dillon Bethea has the sixth-most caused turnovers per game in the CAA this season at 1.33 (eight this season).
Scouting the High Point Panthers (4-4)
Jon Torpey has been the head coach of the men's lacrosse team at High Point since its inception in 2010. He holds an overall record of 84-85 and has led them to two NCAA Tournament berths.
Brayden Mayea leads the Panthers with 28 goals. The team has assisted 66 of their 107 goals and Jack VanOverbeke has setup 20 of them. Collin Hoben has 30 more ground balls than the next Panther at 53. High Point's goalie is Zack Overend with 82 saves.
