HAMPTON, VA. (April 16, 2024) … Hampton got its first taste of national competition on April 11-13 when the team competed in the NCA Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla. Despite competing in their first-ever national cheer contest, Hampton placed a highly-competitive 15th-place in the Division I All-Girl Intermediate division. Cheer coach Kelli Marin's squad was in 13th place after the preliminaries.
The competition attracted the top cheerleading teams in the nation competing for championships with some 20,000 in attendance for the weekend-long competition.
Hampton's cheer team finished ahead of Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) cheer teams from Maine (16th) and Delaware (21st). Northeastern was the top CAA school, finishing third of the 23 teams in the intermediate division.
Hampton recorded a raw score of 79.2667 and a total score of 87.4236, finishing just .1458 points behind the 14th-place finisher, Massachusetts-Lowell.
