ELON, N.C. (May 11, 2024) – The Pirates track & field teams wrapped up competition at the CAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday evening at Elon University. The women's team earned third with 105 points and the men's placed eighth with 41 points.
"I am satisfied with our women's team finishing in the top three but, I had hoped for a better result," said Coach
Maurice Pierce. "On the men's side, we are in a rebuilding stage so, we will be better next year. Congratulations to all of our event winners as we now prepare for the NCAA 1st and 2nd Rounds in Lexington, Ky."
Medals
Abria Smith kicked off the day with a win in the shot put at 15.55m and teammate
Nya Harmon grabbed the bronze (14.39m).
Dugion Blackman won the 800m race in 1:46.67. Freshman
Damali Williams notched a first place finish in the discus throw at 56.03m.
Emmani Shaw earned a silver medal in the high jump (1.73m).
Khari Barnes,
Deondre McIntosh,
Antico Dalton, and
Olakunde Akande grabbed second in the 4x100m (40.56).
Antoine Spencer posted a third-place finish in the 400m (46.59) and
Dejah Grant did the same in the women's 400m hurdles (59.81).
Field Results
In the women's triple jump,
Dieusi Armand,
Nina Pitt, and
Anissa Bernard placed fourth, fifth, and sixth (12.21m, 12.12m, 12.11m).
Oluwatomilayo Akintunde and
Victoria Caldwell earned fourth in the eighth in the shot put (14.28m, 13.50m).
Rochele Solmon finished in fifth in the discus throw (48.82m).
Ellis Branch notched a sixth-place finish in the men's triple jump (14.24m) and
Daye Karib-Whyte ended up in eighth in the shot put (14.77m). In the men's high jump,
Prince Osagie-Erese grabbed eighth (1.90m) and in the discus,
Fanon Miller took ninth (44.39m).
Track Results
The women's 4x400m team of
Kayla Spencer,
Madison Greene,
Jordan Mozie, and
Dejah Grant finished in fourth (3:42.17). Spencer also earned fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:00.09). Grant placed sixth in the 100m hurdles (14.31) and eighth in the 400m dash (54.98). Mozie grabbed eighth in the 1500m (4:37.27).
In the men's 100m dash,
Khari Barnes took fifth (10.66) and teammate
Deondre McIntosh ended up in eighth (11.31).
Antoine Spencer completed the 200m in sixth in 21.15.
Leo Davis finished the 800m in eighth (1:54.39).
