HAMPTON, Va. (May 20, 2024) – Hampton has 11 track & field athletes competing in this week's NCAA East Regional. The meet will begin on Wednesday, May 22, and end on the 25. It is being hosted by the University of Kentucky at the UK Track & Field Complex.

To qualify, student-athletes had to finish in the top 48 for their event in the east region along with the 24 fastest relay teams.

The Lady Pirates who qualified include, Dejah Grant and Kayla Spencer in the 400m hurdles, Madison Greene, Jordan Mozie, Dejah Grant, and Kayla Spencer in the 4x400m (Emmani Shaw is an alternate), Shaw in the high jump, Abria Smith and Oluwatomilayo Akintunde in the hammer throw, Smith in the shot put, Damali Williams and Nya Harmon in the discus throw.

On the men's side, Dugion Blackman will compete in the 800m and Antoine Spencer in the 200m and 400m races.

The two Pirate men will compete on Wednesday. Spencer starts with the 400m race at 7:25 p.m. and then the 200m at 8:45 p.m. Blackman will run in the 800m at 7:50 p.m.

Smith and Akintunde will kick-off Thursday morning in the hammer throw at 10:00 a.m. Smith will also perform in the shot put in the evening at 6:30 p.m. Teammates Grant and Spencer will take on the 400m hurdles at 8:20 p.m. Williams and Harmon are preparing to throw in the discus at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Shaw in the high jump at 2:00 p.m. The 4x400m squad is the last event on Saturday evening at 8:45 p.m.

800m
Dugion Blackman secured his spot in the 800m race after winning the gold medal at the CAA Championships with a time of 1:46.67.

200m and 400m
Antoine Spencer posted his best 200m time at the Aggie Invitational (20.66). In the 400m, he earned his qualifying time by grabbing the bronze medal at the CAA Championships at 46.59.

400m Hurdles
At the Morgan State Legacy Meet, Dejah Grant won the 400m hurdles in 58.88 seconds. Kayla Spencer notched her spot in 59.09 seconds in the Pepsi Florida Relays.

4x400m
The 4x400m team consisting of juniors Madison Greene, Jordan Mozie, Dejah Grant, and Kayla Spencer recorded a time of 3:37.53 at the Penn Relays.

High Jump
Emmani Shaw won the high jump at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier at 1.76m.

Hammer Throw
Abria Smith won the hammer throw event and broke the school record with a toss of 59.76m at the Morgan State Legacy Meet. Oluwatomilayo Akintunde recorded her personal best throw at the Colonial Relays (59.05m).

Shot Put
Abria Smith won the shot put at the CAA Championships at 15.55m.

Discus Throw
Damali Williams broke the school record in the discus throw with a win at the CAA Championships (56.03m). Nya Harmon earned her qualifying distance at the Penn Relays (51.28m).
