Hampton’s Lailah Daniel Among CAA Nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

HAMPTON, Va. (July 31, 2024) … This afternoon the Coastal Athletic Association announced its nominations for the 2024 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Hampton's Lailah Daniel is one of four CAA student-athletes to be nominated for the Award.

The Fredericksburg, Va. native, was a key contributor in the midfield on the Hampton women's soccer team. A three-year letterwinner and team captain, she started all 18 games during the 2023 campaign. Along with the success on the field, Daniel has had a superb resume in the classroom. While majoring in Health Sciences with a concentration in policy administration, she achieved a stellar 4.06 GPA. In the fall, she will be attending Johns Hopkins University to obtain her master's degree in health administration.

With Daniel's success in the classroom, her hard work was honored with the President's Cup for the 2023-24 academic year. Her GPA was the highest of all health sciences majors and Hampton student-athletes. She also served as president of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society along with being a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society, and Upsilon Phi Delta Honor Society. Daniel served as a SAAC representative and made the Dean's List every semester at Hampton. Her efforts extended beyond the classroom and into the community. She volunteered with the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and sewed and distributed thousands of cloth masks during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes student-athletes who exemplify the four pillars of academics, athletics, service, and leadership. The CAA's other nominees include Delaware's Eliza Askarova, Drexel's Chelsea Gravereaux, and UNCW's Tayler Vitola.
