NORFOLK, Va. (September 17, 2024) – The Lady Pirates fell to the Norfolk State Spartans by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday evening inside of Gill Gymnasium. The sets ended 25-18, 25-16, 26-24.
Abena Asomani-Martin set a career-high eight kills for the Lady Pirates.
Morgan Warren notched 10 assists and teammate
Ida Wiszomirska earned nine assists. Asomani-Martin also posted an ace.
On the defensive side of the net, the Lady Pirates recorded more digs than Norfolk State (38-37). Libero
Kylah Hunter posted 10 digs and
Shachia Lamb tallied five blocks (two solo, three assist).
In the first set, Norfolk State took the first two points, but the Lady Pirates tied the game at three. The Spartans went on a 7-2 run which put them ahead 10-5. Hampton bounced back to get within two points, but could not take the lead (25-18). Six Lady Pirates had kills in the set.
Hampton jumped out to an early 3-2 advantage in the second set. The Spartans responded with a 10-2 run which put the set out of reach (25-16). Hunter posted seven digs in the set.
The Lady Pirates had a quick start in the third. Hampton used an early 4-0 run to go ahead 7-3 and continued to lead at 14-11. The Spartans came back and had the score tied at 20. The next eight points went back-to-back between the teams. Norfolk State took the final two points (26-24). Seven Lady Pirates notched a dig in the set.
