DOVER, Del. (Sept. 8, 2024) … Hampton University women's soccer team defeated Delaware State 3-1. The Lady Pirates scored the match's first goal in the 13th minute. With less than 15 minutes in the contest, the Hornets tied it with a late strike. In the seventh minute, Aileen Perez and Zaria Ascue both fired off shots but the Hornets made consecutive saves to keep it scoreless. With a foul at midfield, Makayla Wade received a yellow card. The Lady Pirates' offensive play started to wear down Delaware State. Madisyn Strange in the 13th minute found the back of the net making it 1-0.

Hampton continued to produce shots in the remainder of the first half. The Lady Pirates outshot the Hornets 13-2 in the first 45 minutes. Before the end half, Ellen Van Caenegem and Sofia Jimenez produced opportunities for HU to extend their lead. However, both shots missed the left of the crossbar.
