HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 23, 2025) … The Hampton women's basketball team returns to the Convocation Center for the first time since November 5 as they host Delaware State at 7 p.m.
Sean Robertson and Terence Green will have the call along with sideline reporter Tamara Brown on Flo College along with Monumental Sports Network.
ABOUT HAMPTON
The Pirates home for the first time since opening night after knocking off Norfolk State 57-55 in the Battle of the Bay at Joe Echols Hall. Hampton's win stopped a three-game skid to the Spartans, but also snapped the longest home court winning streak in NCAA D1 as Norfolk State had won 28 straight dating back to February of 2023.
Kayla Lezama paced Hampton in scoring with a career-high 19 points, while tossing in a career-high three 3-pointers and having a season high three steals.
Le'Asia Foreman had nine points and six boards, while
Kiki McElrath added eight points and six boards.
McElrath leads the Pirates in scoring at 12.3 points per game, while
Taylor Gibson is next at 9.8 points per contest and Lezama coming in at 9.5 points per game. On the boards,
Aaryn Battle tops the list averaging 5.0 per game, while Gibson is right behind at 4.8 per contest and McElrath (4.5 rpg) along with
Le'Asia Foreman (4.3 rpg) right behind.
As a team, the Pirates are averaging 61.3 points per game and allowing 52.0. On the boards, they are even with their opponents at 36.8 per game. From the field they are hitting 36.3 percent from the field (97-of-267) and allowing opponents to hit 40.1 percent (79-of-197). From 3-point range, Hampton is 23-of-91 for 25.3 percent and the opposition is 17-of-67 for 25.4 percent. Hampton has averaged 14.3 turnovers per game and forced 24.3 per contest.
In the CAA, Hampton is leading the league in fewest points allowed through games of November 22 allowing 52 points per game. They also lead in turnover margin with a +10.0 and in steals averaging 12.25 per game.
ABOUT DELAWARE STATE
Delaware State (3-4) comes to town after defeating St. Mary's College (MD) 83-38 on Saturday night as Iman Addison and Jermesha Frierson paced five in double figures with 13 points apiece.
The Hornets are paced in scoring by Mahogany Cottingham averaging 11.3 points per game, while Amya Scott adds 9.7 per game. Ericka Huggins tops the team on the boards averaging 6.7 per game and steals (14), while Cottingham leads in assists (15) and second to Huggins in steals (13).
As a team, the Hornets are scoring 60.6 points per game and allowing 60.3. They're hitting .389 from the floor, .298 from 3-point range and .602 from the line. Their opponents are hitting .359 from the floor, .282 from 3-point land and .739 from the line. Opponents are outrebounding Delaware State 40.1-to-35.7 per game.
PIRATES IN NOVEMBER
In the 51-year history of Hampton University women's basketball, the Pirates are 104-120 in the month of November. The Pirates are 7-11 all-time on November 24 having lost their last seven games on this date with the last win being November 24, 1998 at Maryland 76-57.
SERIES VS. DEL STATE
Hampton holds a 30-8 lead in the all-time series with Delaware State having won the last three meetings and 19 of the last 20. The Pirates last lost to the Hornets in the 2015-16 season dropping an 89-81 decision on Feb. 29, 2016.
PLAYED THEM TIGHT
Last year, the Pirates were involved in 18 games, including seven of their last 10, that were decided by 10 points or less and sported a 7-11 mark in those games. In Hampton's last game, the Pirates picked up where that left off last season scoring a 57-55 win at Norfolk State.
INTERESTING MATCHUPS
The Norfolk State and Delaware State games provided flashbacks for a couple of Pirates. Against Norfolk State, it was a return to Joe Echols hall for first year assistant coach
Trinese Fox who joined the Hampton staff this year after serving two stints at Norfolk State as an assistant coach from 2020-22 and 2023-25.
The Delaware State game has
Kiki McElrath going against her former team. Last year against Hampton, McElrath had 15 points going 9-for-9 from the line as the Pirates won 64-47 on Dec. 30, 2024.
